Meet the Cinapsis Team: Sarah Shepherd, Customer Support Representative

May 19, 2023

Tell us a bit about yourself and your professional background

I started out at BT in 1999 and have spent the last 24 years working in a number of different roles within the organisation. When I first joined I was not expecting to stay for such an extended period of time, but I discovered in customer service something that I was genuinely good at and passionate about, and haven’t looked back since.

My career progressed over the years and I was able to travel to many different BT sites to assist with the delivery of training. This included a three week stay in India, which was a massive highlight. I also assisted the chairman’s escalation team for many years alongside my role on the emergency response team.

Throughout my time at BT, I always shared best practice with colleagues and was a go-to person for many people from different departments throughout my career. As a result of my work, I was nominated for a number of customer service awards, of which I’m especially proud.

When (and why) did you join Cinapsis?

I joined the Cinapsis team in April 2023. It was quite a big leap moving from such a large organisation like BT to a much smaller start-up team, but this change excited me and I was drawn to the mission Cinapsis are working to achieve.

I was very nervous as I had not had to do a CV or interview for such a long time - it is quite scary looking for a new job when you have worked for the same company for many years in a role that you loved! The first interview I had with Cinapsis put me right at ease, and by the second interview with the CEO, Owain, I felt like I belonged on the Cinapsis team. I couldn’t wait to get started.

I may only be a few weeks in, but I am really loving my role at Cinapsis, and I’m so glad I took the leap to try something new.

What specific skills and experience do you bring to this role?

I have strong communication, listening, time management and engagement skills, which have been key throughout all of my previous customer support roles. I also have a strong attention to detail and problem solving abilities and am always keen to learn new things.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

At the moment I am still in the onboarding process, so I’m getting to know the team and learning more about Cinapsis and the work we are doing. With the support of Lee, our Customer Support Team Lead, I am learning the ropes, and am enjoying getting to know our fantastic partners and beginning to support them with their use of our platform.

What's the best thing about being in the Cinapsis team?

I am now working alongside such an amazing bunch of people. They are all so passionate about Cinapsis and the success of our mission to help speed up patient access to urgent care. Their willingness and effort to make me feel supported in my new role has been brilliant and I have been welcomed with such open arms. I want to make them all proud for choosing me to join the team.

What are your aims and ambitions for the remainder of 2023?

I plan to continue my learning with Cinapsis and am excited to gain more confidence in my role over the rest of the year.

On a more personal note, I am also excited to continue making improvements to my new house. I have fences to paint and a kitchen to replaster so between work, walking the dog and doing the house and garden up, I don’t really have much time for anything else.

I do want to start learning Spanish later on in the year - I’m thinking that might be a great winter project!

What does the next year hold for Cinapsis? What are you excited about?

I am really excited to see Cinapsis’ continued growth as we support our fantastic partners and onboard new clients onto the platform. There are lots of great things already in the pipeline and it’s certainly an exciting year ahead.

Have you got any fun or interesting facts we should know about you?

I own five lizards; two bearded dragons, one crested gecko, one leopard gecko, and one collared lizard. I also have a giant African snail and a very naughty dog!

I am a five minute walk to the beach so I take my dog down there most days, he loves chasing the waves.

My move from Nottingham to Northumberland last year has done wonders for my mental health. If I am not walking down to the beach I am out in the field or woods with my dog - I love it!
