Cinapsis has passed the DTAC with a score of 95%

We’re proud to announce that Cinapsis SmartReferrals has passed all categories in the NHSx’s Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC), including Clinical Safety, Technical Assurance, Data Protection, Interoperability. We’re especially pleased to have been awarded a 95% score in Usability and Accessibility.

What is the DTAC?

The Digital Technology Assessment Criteria for health and social care is the new mandatory national baseline criteria for all digital health technologies entering into the NHS and social care.

Launched in February 2021, it is designed to be used by healthcare organisations to assess suppliers at the point of procurement or as part of a due diligence process. By bringing together legislation and good practice in one place, the DTAC helps smooth the path between development and procurement.

NHSx Chief executive, Matthew Gould, said:

“The Digital Technology Assessment Criteria is designed to give staff, patients and citizens confidence that the digital health tools they use meet the NHS’s high standards.

“Digital health technologies are used throughout the NHS, and increasingly in social care, to improve patients’ experiences, increase access to services and reduce the burden on staff. The new assessment process will identify the digital tools that meet NHS standards on clinical safety, cybersecurity and data protection from amongst the thousands available in the market and do it more quickly than before.

Why should healthcare organisations know about the DTAC?

When embarking on a procurement process, the compliance of each supplier with Clinical Safety, Technical Assurance, Data Protection and Interoperability standards ought to be a top deciding factor. By selecting a tool or system that has passed the DTAC, organisations can rest assured that it meets the very high standards put into place by NHSx; this removes the danger of having to choose another new system in a few months because of non-compliance issues or failings with the initial choice.

Usability and Accessibility is an important feature of a clinical platform and something that procuring bodies should pay close attention to. The difference between a platform with great usability vs. one that's difficult to use can result in hours gained by clinical staff over time and hundreds of patients seen quicker.

The ease of use of the Cinapsis platform has earned us a nomination as Finalists in the HSJ Awards Primary Care Innovation of the Year category.

In partnership with North Norfolk Primary Care and Xyla Elective Care, our project in Norfolk and Waveney has been shortlisted in the HSJ Awards Primary Care Innovation of the Year category.

We are proud of the results the project:

  • Reducing average waiting times for hospital-based consultant advice to 48 hours for routine referrals, down from 50 weeks
  • Improving clinical practices by creating strong, equitable relationships between primary care and consultant teams who share learnings easier
  • Supporting better outcomes by ensuring patients receive treatment sooner, including identifying serious diseases that should be referred through urgent pathways
  • Improving patient experience by allowing more care to be offered close to home, with around 74% of all treatment being conducted in primary care settings
  • 100% GPs very satisfied and satisfied with their experience using Cinapsis

It’s predicted that this project will achieve cost savings of £1.4 million every year. You can find the full details of the project in an early evaluation by NHSx Innovation Collaborative here.
